Hello
Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, and small minds discuss people." Read that again. Now that you've read it twice, think about that line in your next conversation and ask yourself, are these the people I want to surround myself with in order to be the best version of myself?
My Story
Although my story starts long before my divorce, I'll start there. I moved out in 2022. I love the freedom that my life allows for, currently. The freedom to do what I please, when I want, wherever I choose, whyever I choose. Is whyever a word? It is now! See how great life is now? I can make up words. Actually, I think whyever already exists.
In all seriousness, it wasn't until I was on my own that I gained full autonomy to be completely free and uninhibitedly as creative as I desired. And in the past three years, this has led to some really big projects!
Project 1: Throughout my separation and divorce, I kept notes. Some of them were merely observations, but many were in the way of a journal; something for me to release the tension I had in the moment, but also, something to reflect back upon and learn from. With this, I was able to discuss the event or transaction, the micro, but also was able to watch how my perspective and mindset changed over time, the macro. When I had moved out, I decided to be completely sober for 60 days. I continued my journaling as a way to process the micro but observe changes in the macro. 200 pages later, I am now well aware of the changes I have made in myself, my perspective of others, my approach towards others, and who I am. While this book is anecdotal in nature, it is a compelling story about occupying a growth-mindset during one of life's most difficult decisions.
Project 2: After my summer of sobriety and my first winter of figuring out who I wanted to be, I made the decision that I want to move after my kids have both graduated high school. After all, why would I stay? My kids do not know where they will end up, I do not have family here, and my relationships with friends are not based on proximity, so that is unlikely to change. In fact, I foresee those relationships only getting stronger as I become truer to my life's calling. Here's what I mean. I started working on a farm concept, I now call, Connectivity Farm (CF). You can see a link for it under my picture. Connectivity Farm is an Off-Grid Homestead with short-term rentals (ie: AirBnb, VRBO, etc). And while that isn't all that special, necessarily, I have a few tricks up my sleeve, that I'm going to keep quiet until the time draws closer. I am looking to purchase land near Chattanooga, TN in 2026 and move there Memorial Day, 2027.
Project 3: While working on plans for CF, I started engineering how to keep all aspects of the farm completely close-looped and not reliant on outside utilities what-so-ever. In doing so, I prototyped a way to create electricity from the kinetic energy stored in rain. You read that correctly. I am patent-pending for one utility patent and two design patents to harvest energy from rain. More to come on that later, once DOGE frees up the United States Patent and Trademark Office and I can move forward discussing this project publicly, or at least with a signed NDA ;).
Project 4: A constant goal of mine is to perpetually learn more skills and/or better existing skills. I am very aware that my technology skills are not as wonderful as they could be, so, in effort to better myself, I have created a YouTube Page, online merchandise store, a couple of websites, and some social media pages. While communication platforms, by and large, are a weakness of mine, I respect that it is a necessary skill to have once I move in order to get my message out to the world about CF. What is great about technology is the reach of different platforms, I must admit. And I figure for a couple hundred bucks, I could either get drunk every night or I could invest in myself and drive my weaknesses into strengths. I'm pretty sure this option has a better return on investment.
Project 5: Last, at least for now, I have created a series of fun adventure books titled, "The Adventures of Some Dude and Some Dog." Seven fun stories about, you guessed it, some dude and his dog, who find their way in and out of precarious situations. Although these books are written, I actually need to finish illustrating these books before I can sell. And when I say I need to finish illustrating them, I really mean, I need to find a software that can illustrate them via AI for me. Or if any of you out there know an illustrator, feel free to introduce us! I would love for these books to be physically published some day on display in my short-term rentals as well as some mom-and-pop bookstores someday. Boulder and I could go on tour from town to town. But, for today, I'll keep plugging away!
Well, there you go. That's a bit about this dude. But, that's just scratching the surface, really. I'm constantly thinking of new projects, bigger ideas, and other productive ways to spend my time. If there is one thing I'm certain of, when I'm 100 years old (after I break the world record for fastest Centurian to run 100 meters, and yes, that's a real-life goal of mine), I will be proud that I spent the second half of my life truly creating the best version of myself, through my strengths and weaknesses, and can show my kids that it's never too late to chase your dreams and be the person you want to be.
